Late last week, with a heavy heart, Indie Beauty Media Group announced the cancellation of Indie Beauty Expo Berlin 2020, slated for March 25-26 at Station Berlin.
These are indeed extraordinary times, but we are remaining steadfast in our support of indie brands. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this crisis and small businesses are the first (but certainly not the only) businesses to suffer in times such as these. They will continue to feel the economic and personal repercussions of the COVID-19 virus for months to come.
With extra emphasis around cleanliness, hygiene and staying healthy given the current climate, it’s a prime opportunity to highlight brands who are champions of hygiene and immune system strengthening. Taking extra precautions will not just have short-term effects, but reveal lifelong benefits.
Here’s a look at a handful of brands who were signed up for the Berlin show.
Hech's Pure Woman Botanicals
Boosting the immune system has become a high priority no matter your lifestyle, and your daily vitamin may not be enough. Hech, a German beauty supplement company offers Pure Woman Botanicals Cell Protect. Packed with immune aids, Vitamin A and C contribute to the normal function of the immune system while Vitamins C and E contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress—a known immune system suppressant. Vitamin A helps in the maintenance of normal skin. Plus, the product is vegan!
R-Leben Blue Zone Secrets
Dr. Harald Pfeffer, an experienced general practitioner and passionate researcher, created R-Leben Blue Zone Secrets with the goal of bringing beauty and well-being into harmony.
The brand stands for holistic, long-lasting care from the inside and outside. The supplements address different issues like Energy, Clarity, Sleep and Radiance to name a few, but Dr. Pfeffer’s “Defense Blend” uses numerous natural active ingredients to supplement the immune system and metabolism. The unique recipe includes Schisandra berry to support immune health and other active ingredients like moringa, dandelion, ginseng, ABM and turmeric, all well-known herbal remedies. Defense also contains vitamin C, niacin and biotin. All ingredients are 100% natural.
Ion-Sei Ionic Brushing System
Did you know studies have shown those who don’t brush their teeth regularly are at higher risk for developing health-related issues, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes?
The Ion-Sei Ionic brushing system is revolutionizing home oral care using ionic technology to suppress bacteria causing plaque along with removing it. The Ion-Sei electric conductor handle, harnesses the healing properties of light, metal and electricity to control cavity-causing bacteria.
When activated, the integrated UV LED light and titanium dioxide bar produce a photocatalytic reaction, generating a flood of negative ions that curb cavity-causing bacteria—all without using toothpaste. In fact, ION-Sei’s ionic technology is more effective without it. Japanese and German designers were brought together to collaborate and produce ION-Sei for Sanyei.
Smile Makers' Ballerina
For those who are dialing back on their Tinder dating (and, ahem, serious germ swapping!) check out Smile Makers’ newly launched palm-sized vibrator The Ballerina. Enjoy a weekend at home with Netflix and The Ballerina or one of Smile Makers' other pleasure inducing products, like the 5-star reviewed “The Millionaire”. Throw in a pint of ice cream and there is nothing better.
One Day Baby
Nothing is more effective than washing your hands frequently with soap and water. One Day Baby is made in Germany and creates vegan hand soaps without parabens, palm, petroleum or microplastics.
Check out their “The Mild and Mellow One” wash if you enjoy the scent of peony combined with woody white musk or “The Fresh and Funny One” if fresh and fruity apple blossom with a hint of bitter sandalwood is more your taste.
A Holistic Approach to Well-Being
Taking a more holistic approach to well-being especially in times of uncertainty can potentially give you a better chance at staying illness free.
Besides practicing proper etiquette in public and at home by washing your hands, using a tissue when sneezing, coughing into your elbow, staying home if you don’t feel well, we have a better chance as a global brothers and sisters to minimize cross contamination and get on with normal life.
Confinement can get very lonely, so let’s all take great care of ourselves by supporting indie brands in the meantime who champion health and wellness.
